Pistoia – Social Business City
Social enterprise took another giant leap forward, yesterday, when Pistoia, Italy, became that country’s first ‘Social Business City’… according to a report by the Yunus Centre.
The historic agreement between the Yunus Social Business Centre University of Florence (YSBCUF), the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia and Fondazione Un Raggio di Luce Onlus initiated a €300,000+ programme of social business training, the aims of which include giving people “the chance to be the main actors of their life and their future”, and encouraging a “new economy” through the efforts of enterprising individuals and local authorities. International collaboration and sharing of ideas and experience will also be an essential part of the project.
This is the way of the future, as national and local authorities are increasingly unable to resolve societal problems. Alongside stories of personal generosity and altruism, it’s great to hear of the continuing rise of social enterprise, which is now a permanent feature on the business landscape.
